NMALR Chapter 5
John Bush, President February

Our February ALR meeting is February 7. Hope to see you all there. The riders want to have more social events, rides and continue our good work for veterans.

We have done some good things for needy veterans this past year, wheelchair ramp, comfort bags, working with OWW including the Vet’s Home and the Oak Street Project. I am sure we can find more to do this year.

We enjoyed our members Addie and Tobias being with us in December and January. We had a great get together at El Faro before Tobias returned to Switzerland.

Our new officers for 2017 are:
President: John Bush
Vice President: Donacino Armijo

Rides & Events:
This month has been very successful for American Legion Riders Chapter 5. We have a right to be proud.

We had a robust meeting last month and have made some plans to do interesting things. Our meeting included discussion with Post 44 Commander AL Norton. That discussion was very beneficial.

As Chapter 5 President I also attended the Post e-board meeting and was able to speak on behalf of the activities of the American Legion Riders. I described some of the highlights, hoping to show that other than being “big bad bikers”, we have been involved in a wide variety of projects and Post activities.

I cited the Oak Street project in Las Cruces, visits to the New Mexico State Veterans Home, care packages for local homeless veterans, and of course, our most recent accomplishment building a ramp for a paraplegic veteran who was in need and very thankful that we were there to help him. That’s what we’re about.

I would like to thank everyone who was involved in the ramp project. You know who you are. Several members put in a lot of work to make it happen along with non members Ken Garrard and the Brown family.

We can now look forward to our future activities which include the New Mexico Vets Home, Veterans Day events. And, of course, our activities with homeless vets and others that need help.

Let’s Ride!
